A UK water company needed to reduce phosphorus levels in river discharge from 0.4 mg/l to 0.25 mg/l (and stretch target of 0.1 mg/l) to meet new tightened environmental consents. The existing treatment process couldn't achieve these ultra-low levels, and the site had severe space constraints with highly variable wastewater volumes.
Veolia installed two parallel Actiflo AS3 units (ballasted clarification technology) with enhanced coagulant dosing. Actiflo was chosen because it's proven to achieve 0.1 mg/l Total P, prevents chemical contamination through residual capture, and uses modular design for easy installation. Real-time monitoring via Hubgrade platform enables ongoing optimisation.
